Key dates
- January 10, 2006 — Apple introduces the 15-inch MacBook Pro, a new portable shipping in February. It features a 1.67GHz or 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo processor plus an integrated iSight and Front Row.
- February 14, 2006 — MacBook Pro processors are bumped to 1.83GHz and 2.0GHz before any have shipped. A 2.16GHz processor is available build-to-order.
- April 24, 2006 — The 17-inch MacBook Pro is introduced featuring a 2.16GHz processor as standard.
- May 17, 2006 — The 15-inch MacBook Pro gets its processors bumped to 2.0GHz and 2.16GHz. Meanwhile, the 12-inch PowerBook G4 is retired.
- October 24, 2006 — A new version of the MacBook Pro is introduced featuring the Intel Core 2 Duo processor.
- June 5, 2007 — The MacBook Pro is updated with speeds of 2.2 or 2.4GHz. The 15-inch model gains an LED backlight and the 17-inch an optional 1920x1200 pixel LCD. The 3GB RAM limit is removed.
