Key dates
- July 21, 1999 — The AirPort Base Station and AirPort Card are introduced to complement the iBook.
- November 13, 2001 — An updated AirPort Base Station features second ethernet port and Snow enclosure.
- September 18, 2002 — The AirPort Card is repackaged without the adapter needed for G3 iMacs.
- January 7, 2003 — An AirPort Extreme base station and card are introduced to complement the new PowerBooks.
- April 19, 2004 — A new model of AirPort Extreme Base Station is introduced featuring Power over Ethernet and fire regulation certification.
- June 7, 2004 — Apple introduces AirPort Express, a simplified AirPort Extreme base station. The low-end AirPort Extreme Base Station and non-Extreme AirPort card are discontinued.
- June 29, 2004 — AirPort Extreme Card and Base Station prices are lowered.
- January 9, 2007 — Both models of AirPort Extreme Base Station are replaced by an 802.11n model with a Mac mini style form factor, and a software update is released enabling 802.11n in recent Macs. The AirPort Express has its price reduced to $99.
